Dynadot's flat renewals: the cheap domains that stay cheap

Most registrars renew higher than they sell. Dynadot renews .de, .uk, .in, .fr and .com at exactly the first-year price — and its catalogue shows which endings never jump.

The domain market runs on a simple trick: sell the first year at cost or below, and make it back on the renewal. Almost every registrar plays it. Which is why Dynadot is worth a separate look — its catalogue is full of endings that never arrive. A large number of Dynadot's extensions renew at exactly the first-year price, year after year, with no promo code and no loyalty scheme required.

Every figure below comes from OneYearDeal's live price database for Dynadot registration products, checked October 2026. All prices are US dollars per year.

The extensions that never jump

These are the headline flat-renewers — the first-year price is the renewal price, forever:

  • .de — $3.94 to register, $3.94 to renew. A five-year .de costs $19.70. That is a German domain for under $4 a year, permanently.
  • .uk — $6.21 flat, five years $31.05.
  • .in — $6.23 flat, five years $31.15.
  • .fr — $6.57 flat, five years $32.85.
  • .com — $10.88 flat, five years $54.40. It is not the cheapest first-year .com on our boards, but few registrars hold the renewal at the same number.
  • .net — $12.52 flat, five years $62.60.

The pattern runs deeper than the famous extensions. .co.in, .ai.in, .am.in and the other Indian sub-zones sit at $4.98 flat; .fyi, .democrat, .futbol, .republican, .gripe and .sarl all hold at $5.57; the four French overseas zones (.re, .tf, .pm, .wf) sit at $6.85 flat. In our database, 133 of Dynadot's 626 single-word extensions are under $25 with a renewal identical to the register price.

Flat does not mean cheap everywhere — but often it does

A flat renewal is only a win if the number itself is competitive. Dynadot's flat list includes genuine bargains (everything above) and a few honest-but-pricey ones, like .io at $53.50 flat. Compare that to a registrar charging $30 for .io's first year and $60 to renew — the flat $53.50 is still the better five-year deal. Flat pricing removes the ambush; the sticker is the bill.

The other side of the catalogue: the jumpers

Dynadot runs the standard bait on the trendy extensions, and some of the jumps are steep. A sample of first-year vs renewal from the same database:

ExtensionFirst yearRenewalFive-year total
.shop$1.99$32.32$131.27
.live$2.50$32.32$131.78
.fun$3.50$32.32$132.78
.store$2.50$43.02$174.58
.tech$6.64$52.65$217.24

To put those five-year totals in perspective: five years of a .com at Dynadot costs $54.40. Five years of a .shop costs $131.27 — nearly two and a half times as much for a novelty ending. Five years of a .de costs $19.70, less than the single renewal of a .tech.

How to use this

The rule of thumb: when you plan to keep a domain for years, price the renewal, not the coupon. On our Dynadot deals page you can sort the whole catalogue, and the Dynadot business page lists every product we track with its checked register and renewal prices.

For the broader picture on how registrars hide renewal costs, see the .com renewal trap and the NameSilo breakdown in $3 domains that cost $39 to renew.
